At least give them the option to leave each (or round).

The fact that third party units cannot act in any way if the battlefield includes them is puzzling. The battlefield can often cut off the only route to opposing units and can expand onto the cities of uninvolved parties. It currently results in very unintuitive situations Forests make sense, but units should definitely only be one unit tall. Units are two units tall for line-of-sight purposes. Just as it doesn’t make sense for a Man-o-war to destroy units four tiles from the cost, it doesn’t make sense for a musket man to do serious damage to a man-o-war back Naval units have no defensive bonuses against attacks from land units. There are some really odd choices made in regards to combat that need to be looked at However, there’s a lot more I want from this game It allows for drawing from a wider pool of cultures, which I like. I love that there’s more of a focus on cultures instead of states/historical figures. However, there’s also still a fair amount to address. I like the evolution that naturally unfolds in positioning.

The scoring system (combined with the culture switch) allows me to play without aiming for a specific end condition from the get-go. This addresses one of the pacing problems I have in Civ 6 where it could be a good while before you could access the unique tools that your Civ had. Humankind has a lot of great things going onĬhanging cultures allows each player/computer unique tools/actions at all times. So even though Endless Legend is an older game, it is a much better game than Humankind. And they all play differently because of that. The most interesting aspect of Endless Legend is that the various factions are asymmetrical. There are also hero’s with an RPG-lite skill tree that you can hire to either lead armies or govern cities. And you can customize those units to a limited degree-changing their armour or basic weapon (if you have the resources to support that upgrade). Endless Legend is a fantasy game, so your units will be spell casters, cavalry, flying creatures, infantry, or archers. The combat is very similar in both games. And there are a lot of similarities between Endless Legend and Humankind. The developers, Amplitude Studios, also created an incredible 4X game a few years ago: Endless Legends. That being said, the way the game handles the Neolithic start is pretty cool. Or to put it another way, once you’ve played Humankind a couple times, that pretty much for the game. In that sense, Humankind lacks the depth, challenge, and excitement found in Civ V and Civ VI. Every culture I pick in each era just feels like changing the colour of the food colouring added to the icing, but other than that, it it always the exact same cupcake recipe. Every humankind game I play pretty much follows this same exact same strategy. Just hang out in every era and get all your ears stars: collect all the fame in the world and profit. I’ve played a lot of 4X games, and I find that Humankind is just missing something.
